U.S. hospitals and health systems continued to experience tight margins in June, as rising expenses offset revenue and volume improvements—amid concern about the impact of the COVID-19 Delta variant—according to the latest issue of Kaufman Hall’s National Hospital Flash Report.

Recent data show new gains for the nation’s hospitals, health systems, and physician groups as they move closer to pre-pandemic performance, according to two reports from Kaufman Hall released today. The trends suggest a possible end to the volatility wrought by COVID-19 after more than a year of significant disruption.

Hospital margins, volumes, and revenues were up across most performance metrics both year-to-date (YTD) and year-over-year (YOY), but were down compared to March, according to the latest issue of Kaufman Hall’s National Hospital Flash Report.
