Terry Shirey is a Managing Director for Kaufman Hall’s Treasury and Capital Markets practice. He advises healthcare leaders nationwide on Treasury and Capital Markets topics, including credit and capital management, external financing, treasury operations, treasury platform merger integration, and strategic resource allocation.

Terry has advised healthcare clients on more than $20 billion in interest rate swaps. Structures utilized include fixed payer and receiver swaps, percent of LIBOR swaps, basis swaps, reversals of existing swaps, swaptions and options on existing swaps. He serves as lead financial advisor to numerous multi-state and regional health care systems and has advised on financings totaling more than $10 billion in the last five years. He has also served as an expert witness in CON hearings.

He previously served as President and Head of Advisory Services for Ponder & Co., where he was responsible for directing the efforts of the firm related to capital formation, capital markets and investment management. Prior to joining Ponder & Co., he worked in the investment banking sector specializing in tax-exempt structured financings for healthcare providers. Subsequently he served as a portfolio manager for a high-net-worth investment management firm. In addition to his other responsibilities at Ponder, for approximately 5 years he served as a fixed income portfolio manager responsible for $750+ million in assets.

Terry holds a B.A. in mathematics and economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and was honored with Magna Cum Laude distinction. Additionally, he achieved the Chartered Financial Analyst in 1996.
