Gavin McDermott

As managing director of the consulting and advisory firm Kaufman Hall, a Vizient company, Gavin McDermott co-leads the Financial Planning practice and leads approximately 50 specialists with expertise in financial and capital planning, corporate finance, process design and financial performance strategies.

Gavin advises healthcare executives in evaluating and executing strategies in a financially sustainable manner. This includes navigating complex strategic and capital decisions and translating financial and operational data into actionable insight. He partners with organizations to develop robust financial models, business cases for major capital investments, multiyear financial plan and capital allocation frameworks that support long-term sustainability and growth. As a capital markets advisor, he advises on a broad range of financing transactions, including both public and private and fixed- and variable-rate structures.

As a trusted advisor to senior healthcare leaders for more than 15 years, Gavin works with specialty hospitals, physician groups, independent community hospitals, academic medical centers and multistate health systems to strengthen financial resilience and inform high-stakes strategic decisions. He is a regular contributor to Kaufman Hall thought leadership on the financial implications of federal policy changes for hospitals, reflecting his expertise in modeling complex reimbursement and regulatory impacts and translating them into clear strategic guidance for executives and boards.

Gavin is a CFA charterholder and holds a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Michigan.
