Kaufman Hall Advises Columbus Regional Health on Piedmont Healthcare Partnership

Kaufman Hall has served as exclusive financial advisor to Columbus Regional Health on strategic partnership.

SKOKIE, Ill. – June 22, 2017 –Columbus Regional Health (CRH) has announced its intention to partner with Piedmont Healthcare (Piedmont).

Included in the partnership would be CRH’s two hospitals, Midtown Medical Center and Northside Medical Center, as well as John B. Amos Cancer Center and multiple urgent care centers, free-standing imaging centers, pharmacies and a continuing care retirement center in Columbus, Georgia.

Piedmont Healthcare is an Atlanta-based, not-for-profit healthcare system with seven hospitals.

Kaufman Hall has served as exclusive financial advisor to CRH.

CRH has recently undergone a number of strategic cost improvement initiatives that have led to enhanced operating performance. However, its leadership team and board of directors determined that the organization could best achieve its mission, vision, and strategic plan by affiliating with an organization that offers resources and capabilities that could help CRH accelerate the transformation required to succeed in the new healthcare environment.

As a result, CRH began a process to review its strategic options to help ensure the System remains an essential community provider and that it continues to meet and exceed the health care needs of Muscogee county and the surrounding communities.

“Since last year when we made our initial announcement regarding a potential partnership or affiliation, we have maintained our position of strength financially and we continue to realize improvement across many areas of our health system. We believe that now is the time to combine our strengths through a strategic partnership. This will allow us to serve our patients and the community to the highest degree possible,” said Scott Hill, CRH President and CEO.

CRH’s strategic affiliation with Piedmont is expected to provide increased access to capital and resources, leading to potential improvements in quality of care, patient access, and the optimization of heath care value by better organizing how care is delivered.

“This decision was made after a comprehensive, year-long process to evaluate the benefits for our patients, for our employees, our medical staff and most importantly, for our community. Based on the core goals and objectives we laid out before we began our process, we are confident Piedmont is the right fit for us” added Warren Steele, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Columbus Regional Health.
