Roy Boland, MSN, MHA, RN

Roy Boland is a seasoned healthcare executive and consultant with over 25 years of experience spanning prehospital care, hospital operations and system-level strategy. He brings deep expertise in emergency department performance, hospital capacity management and patient throughput optimization. Roy has led emergency department, inpatient length of stay and hospital capacity engagements for a wide range of hospitals, including large academic medical centers and community-based institutions. His career is marked by a commitment to operational excellence, data-driven strategy and large-scale change leadership.

Roy serves as Vice President in the Clinical Solutions practice at Kaufman Hall, a Vizient company, where he leads enterprise-level transformation efforts for hospitals and health systems nationwide. His clinical roots, combined with strategic vision and operational insight, make him a transformative leader in healthcare delivery innovation. He is the author of Transforming Hospital Capacity Through Smarter Patient Progression Strategies, a strategic guide for hospital leaders addressing bottlenecks in flow and inefficiencies in progression of care. He also co-authored Four Strategies to Reduce Emergency Department Overcrowding, a publication focused on solving ED boarding and access delays through operational redesign.

In addition, Roy co-authored Breaking the Gridlock: The Clinical and Operational Impact of ED Boarding—and How to Fix It, a nationally presented strategy for alleviating emergency department congestion and improving patient flow across the continuum.

Roy has played a pivotal advisory role at the national level as a member of the Advisory Steering Committee and Thought Leadership Committee for the Hospital Capacity Management Consortium (HCMC). He supported the transition of HCMC into a Professional Membership Group under the American Hospital Association—a milestone in aligning capacity management practices across U.S. hospitals.

Roy holds a master of healthcare administration and a master of science in nursing from Walden University and is working to complete a doctor of nursing practice with Capella University.
