As managing director of the consulting and advisory firm Kaufman Hall, a Vizient company, Dan Clarin co-leads approximately 100 specialists nationwide within the firm’s Strategy & Business Transformation practice. The team partners with healthcare systems, provider organizations, health plans and new market entrants to advance enterprise strategy, clinical network planning, physician enterprise strategy and operations, and large-scale transformation initiatives spanning design, planning and execution.

With experience spanning hundreds of client engagements and more than 20 years in healthcare and retail strategy, Clarin advises boards and executive leadership teams on enterprise strategy, growth and transformative partnerships that position organizations for long-term relevance in a rapidly changing environment. In 2023-2024, he led Kaufman Hall’s strategic partnership advisory team serving BJC HealthCare and Saint Luke’s Health System in the development and execution of one of the most significant nonprofit healthcare mergers of the past decade. Leveraging deep national market insight, candid and collaborative facilitation and rigorous financial and strategic analysis, he helps organizations translate bold ambitions into clear priorities, executable plans and measurable results.

A nationally recognized thought leader, Clarin frequently authors and speaks on emerging market trends, nonprofit governance and strategic growth. From 2016-2023, he led the development and publication of Kaufman Hall’s State of Consumerism in Healthcare Report and has been published by The Governance Institute on the role of nonprofit boards in strategic planning. He is regularly sought out by CEOs and chief strategy officers for perspective on market dynamics and organizational choices.

Prior to joining Kaufman Hall, Clarin held corporate strategy and finance leadership roles at Walgreens, where he led initiatives focused on customer loyalty strategy and the expansion of retail healthcare services. His experience at the intersection of retail, consumer engagement and healthcare informs his perspective on growth, access and competitive positioning.

Clarin holds a bachelor of arts in economics from Colgate University, graduating cum laude. He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder and serves on the board of directors of the Scleroderma Foundation of Greater Chicago.
