Kaufman Hall Advised Longmont United Hospital Joining Centura Health

On August 14, 2015, Longmont United Hospital (LUH) and Centura Health announced that they have finalized their affiliation agreement, with LUH officially joining the region’s healthcare leader as its 16th hospital. Kaufman Hall served as the exclusive advisor to the LUH board and management team throughout the partnership process.

Beginning in early 2013, LUH’s board of directors engaged Kaufman Hall to look at its current and future ability to meet the demands of healthcare reform as an independent, stand-alone hospital.  Following a thorough examination of the landscape and a review of several leading potential partners, LUH entered into a letter of intent to affiliate with Centura in November 2014.  LUH ultimately decided to partner with Centura because the two shared a similar vision and values, and because its system had the necessary resources to thrive in a transforming system of care, including:

  • Stability and strength of sponsors
  • Commitment to physician integration and alignment
  • Greatest number of access points of any Colorado healthcare system
  • Committed to keeping healthcare local
  • Sophisticated information systems
  • A long-term strategy to provide value-based, population health management

Centura Health has committed to investing in LUH’s growth and development, including capital for facilities and information technology, to benefit both clinical quality and patient care. It also maintains the hospital’s significant levels of investment in the communities it serves.

During the next 18 to 24 months, LUH and its affiliated physician practices will integrate their systems with the Centura Health network to further optimize the value of health care for consumers, aligning providers and creating systems that support improved convenience, care coordination and communication.  It will collaborate with Centura Health to identify if any gaps in health and wellness services and resources exist in the community – and will bring new health solutions and expanded services based on consumers’ needs.
