Practice Lead - Healthcare Software Division

What motivates you about the work that you do?

The best part of my job is knowing that the work that I do and the software we provide helps our clients make their jobs better. There is nothing more frustrating than to know you have the data in your data warehouse, but lack the tools you need to report on it. When I train my clients and they see their data in our system for the first time, you can see their excitement as they begin to realize all that they can do with our software.

Describe a typical day with Kaufman Hall.

When you enter into Accounting as a career, you expect that your work is going to be the same every month as you work toward the month-end close. I did this throughout my career prior to Kaufman Hall. What I enjoy about my current role is that every day is different. Some days I will be on back-to-back client calls, whether it is reviewing the status of an implementation, trouble-shooting a design issue, or providing a demonstration of our software. There will be days that my time is spent building a client’s system, writing imports, reconciling data, and designing their structure. Or, I could be heading to O’Hare on a Monday afternoon to a client anywhere in the United States where I will be spending the next 2-3 days training them on our software.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career at Kaufman Hall?

As the only software consultant in the Skokie office, I have been fortunate to be part of the new-hire process, interviewing potential software consultant candidates. I always tell recruits that looking back over my career, my role at Kaufman Hall is my favorite.  Don’t get me wrong, I have had some long days at work, but that is due to my own self-motivation and wanting what’s best for our clients. When I deliver a system to a client, their success in using the software is a reflection of my work and I take that responsibility very seriously.
